Abstract:
    The present invention relates to a device for optical monitoring of a material strand (28) of the tobacco processing industry, in particular a tobacco strand (28), which includes a first optical element (54) used for changing the light beam (50) basically parallel to the material strand (28) into the direction pointing to the material strand (28) and a detector (81, 88) used for detecting the light beam (55) reflected by the material strand (28). The invention is characterized in that, the first optical element (54) is formed in this way, the light beam (55) with the direction changed by the optical element (54) has the converging action in the surface (58) range of the material strand (28).
