Abstract:
    An organic electroluminescent device of the type which comprises an organic layer having a luminescent region provided between an anode and a cathode, characterized in that the organic layer contains a distyryl compound represented by the following general formula (1): wherein, in the above general formula (1), R1, R2, R3 and R4 are, respectively, of groups which may be the same or different and represent an aryl group of the following general formula (2): wherein, in the above general formula (2), R5, R6, R7, R8 and R9 are, respectively, of groups which may be the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom, or at least one of them is a saturated or unsaturated alkoxyl group or an alkyl group.
