Abstract:
    The invention is directed to display a reproduced image for a long time even for a portable terminal by decoding a compression coded image signal while suppressing power consumption. A controller discriminates whether a display mode is a color display mode or a monochromatic display mode. In the color display mode, coded data of a luminance signal and coded data of a color difference signal are fed to an information source decoding section by changeover control of a switch of the controller. In the monochromatic display mode, the coded data of the color difference signal are aborted and only the coding data of the luminance signal are fed to the information source decoding section.
