Abstract:
    The present invention relates a digital camera provided with an AE(automatic exposure) function. In this camera 100, a CCD 103 converts object light to an electric signal and outputs it as an image signal and the image signal is A/D converted in an A/D converter 106 and outputted as a digital image signal. An image pre-processor (IPP) 107 as an AE evaluation means outputs an AE evaluated value corresponding to the luminance data of the digital, image signal. A CPU 121 refers to an AE table for indicating the relation of the AE evaluated value, calculates the appropriate exposure level corresponding to the AE evaluated value and performs automatic exposure control based on the calculated appropriate exposure level. Setting the best exposure conditions and getting the image of high quality.
