Abstract:
    A system for stabilizing an output optical power from a laser source (1) against drifts induced by temperature and/or aging. The output optical power including a target optical modulation amplitude around a target average value. There is a power sensor (2) for sensing the output optical power from the laser source (1) and generating a power sensing signal (3) indicative thereof. A controller (5) sensitive to the power sensing signal is configured for selectively adjusting (6, 7) the bias (IB) and modulation (IM) currents of the laser source (1). This is achieved by detecting an error between the actual average output optical power from the laser source (1) and the target average value, and comparing the error against a given error threshold. When the error reaches the threshold, adjustment of the bias (IB) and modulation (IM) currents takes place to bring the output optical power from the laser source (1) back to said target average value (Ptarget) and said target optical modulation amplitude (OMAtarget) around said target average value (Ptarget).
