Abstract:
     The noncrystalline metallic material in band form is used to provide hermetic sealing protection for cable elements, especially for optical fiber elements. The metallic glass Cu-Zr alloy show good hermeticity to hydrogen, especially when Er is added. Therefore when optical fiber sealed in non-crystalline metallic tubing is used as underwater optical cable, increase of light loss in the fiber will be prevented, because the contact of optical fiber with hydrogen produced during the use of the cable is prevented.
