Abstract: |
|||
| Platinum and ruthenium coatings are used on electrodes for electrolysis of water to lower cell voltage and save energy consumption. Coatings suggested by this invention consist of: PtO2, PtO, KCl and Ru on the anode; while Pt and Ru on the cathode. As compared with the prior art of electrode with active coating, predominant advantages of the present invention are: simplicity of the method of preparing the electrodes, by adding the active components containing Pt and Ru to the running electrolytic cells, active coatings are formed on the electrodes; the cell voltage of a single pair of electrolytic cells is thus lowered by 0.22v; and energy consumption can be saved by 10%. besides, life of this kind of electrodes is very long, therefore, the said method is easily applied in industrial water electrolysis plant. | |||
