Abstract:
     The thermal treatment is carried out by passing hot gases through the bed. The hot air passes downword through the bed in thermally treating zone, gases containing oxygen pass upword through the bed in the cooling zone, and the heated cooling gases are fed from cooling zone to thermal treatment zone in a continuous gas hood. In order to reduce energy consumption, operating cost and structual cost, the heated cooling gases must travel at high speed along upper layer of the moving grate in the continuous gas hood, and such high speed flow makes any vertical lifting force of no effect so that parallel layers of air flow having different temperatures are formed. Fuel is furnished to each of the layers to heat them to different high tempertures, and then go into the thermal treatment zone and pass downword through the bed.
