Abstract:
     Micro-organism is continuously or intermittently cultured in an air-lift fermentation tank at low air pressure. The range of air pressure is 0.3-1.0 kg/cm2, using Root's blower instead of air compessor as ventilating source. The height range of fermentation tank is 6-20 m. The production capacity of microbe is 6.3g/l.hr, the energy consumption for microbe production is 0.59 kw.hr/kg. Compare with the ordinary air-lift fermentation tank, it has the advantage of easy to scale-up. This method and apparatus is applicable to culture of microbe liquid using deep layer ventilation, e.g. bacteria, hematode, fungus etc. paticulary for production of unicellular protein, e.g. yeast.
