Abstract:
The water-insoluble polymeric adsorbant is used to separate the citric acid from the fermentation liquor. The adsorbant can be selected from the following substances, i.e.: the neutral cross-linked polystyrene, the nonionic hydrophobic polyacrylate, the weakly basic anionic ion-exchange resins containing tertiary amine or pyridine radicals, and strongly basic anionic ion-exchange resins containing quaternary ammonium radicals or the mixtures thereof. The desorption agent comprises water, or an organic acid, or a ketone, or mixtures thereof. To obtain the optimal selectivity. The pH of the feedstock is preferably regulated to a level which is lower than the first ionization constant of citric acid (pKa1).
