Abstract:
     The present invention concerns a process and the equipment for producing synthesis gas. The process comprises partial combustion of carbonaceous fuel with oxygen-containing gas in a reactor. The molten slag produced is discharged simultaneously from a slag discharge opening at bottom of the reactor, the slag drops by gravity into a pool of water and is solidified by quenching. By lowering the water level in the pool to the lower-edge of baffle-plate, the solidified slag floating on the water surface of the pool can be removed. The baffle-plate is arranged in the pool so as to divide the pool into a top quenching zone and a lower collecting zone. By raising the water level of the pool over the top edge of the plate, floating slag will be collected under the plate, and the collected slag in the pool is removed from an exit arranged at top of the collecting zone.
