Abstract:
     This invention presents a method of making synthesis gas from new born coal. The present existing gas producing section of the small scale synthetic ammonia plants in China may serve this purpose provided that slight modification is done to the equipment or a few pieces are added. By pyrolysis, catalytic cracking and conversion reactions, excellent quality synthesis gas containing 98% CO H2 is obtained, in which the content of CH4 is less than 0.7% and CO2 between 0.5-1.0%. The method of the present invention is applicable also extensively in cases where high concentration reducing gas (CO H2) is needed.
