Abstract:
     This invention includes the use of a hydrogenation catalyst supported on a refractory material of inorganic oxide. The catalyst participates a slight extent of hydrogenation action for the coal tar pitch being insoluble in toluene. The catalyst contains at least one kind of metal, hydride or sulfide selected from graup six B and eight metal elements. Reaction conditions are: 200-400 deg.C, 20-250 kg/cm2, gauge H2 pressure, liquid space velocity, 0.1-10 l./l.hr, and H2/liquid ratio, 5000-2000 Nl/l.
