Abstract:
     This invention deals with a method of extracting gelatin from the body of starfish (a kind of sea echinoderm) and making plasma substitute therefrom. The starfish, the supply of which is abundant in China, is subject to acid leaching and base leaching to give the extract. Gelatin, a polypeptide with a molecular weight of approx. 20000, is obtained after calcium removal and degradation of the extract. The plasma substitute based on the said gelatin has excellent pesformance in expandiny the blood volume, improving the microcirculation, as well as participating in the metabolism of the organism.
