| When hydrolyzed starch is graft copolymerized with acrylonitrile, or, when it is grafted to acrylic acid and neutralijed with alkali, the product is a super efficient water absorbent. The initiator used in the graft copolymerization may be ammonium persulfate or its redox system. The crosslinking agent used in the graft copolymerization with acrylic acid may be N,N-methylene-di-propylamide. It is not necessary to introduce N2 continuously into the reactor during grafting, and it is enough to evacuate the reactor and introduce N2 into it repeatedly 2-3 times before copolymerization takes place. This absorbent has the capacity of absorbing water about 2000 times of its own weight. It can be used as water absorbent in the field of agriculture, forestry, medicine and hygiene etc. | |||
