Abstract:
    A dispersant for emulsion polymerization or suspension polymerization which comprises a vinyl alcohol polymer having 1.9 mol% or more 1,2-glycol bonds. This dispersant, even when added in a reduced amount, can impart excellent polymerization stability. The aqueous emulsion obtained has excellent water resistance and a reduced temperature dependence. The suspension polymerization can yield a vinyl polymer reduced in coloration. Further, the wastewater resulting from the suspension polymerization is reduced in load on the environment.
