Abstract:
     Cellulose pulp with a copper number lower than 0.4 g. is alkali treated and an etherifying agent is added. The resulted high polymerized cellulose ether is refined with hot water, dried, pulverized and depolymerized, then a low polymerized cellulose ether is yielded. It has high brightness and is suitable for use as base material of a prepared coating. The viscosity of aqueous solution of low polymerizd cellulose ether with a 2 percent concentration and at a temperature of 20 deg.C. is below 20c st. It is selected from methyl, hydroxymethyl, hydroxyethyl, hydroxypropyl, hydroxypropylmethyl, and hydroxybutylmethyl cellulose. The high polymerized cellulose ether is dried with non-active gas or gas short of oxygen at a temperature lower than 100 deg.C. and is maintained at a temp. of 40-80 deg.C. itself. The drying is continued until a moisture content of 1-5 percent (by weight) is obtd. After pulverizing for one minute, a high brightened and low polymerized cellulose ether is yielded.
