Abstract:
    Processes are disclosed for preparing phosphonyl hydroxyacyl prolines from a phosphonous acid or phosphonochloridate intermediate. The compounds prepared possess angiotension converting enzyme inhibition activity and are useful as antihypertensive agents. This invention is also directed to orally active antihypertensive agents of the formula wherein R1 is certain alkyl or aralkyl groups.
