Abstract:
     A process for the recovery of unreacted ammonia from the reactor effluent obtained from a reaction zone used to produce acrylonitrile or methacrylonitrile comprising quenching the reactor effluent with an aqueous solution of ammonium phosphate wherein the ration of ammonium ions to phosphate ions in the solution is between about 0.7 to about 1.3, preferable between about 0.9 to 1.2.
