Abstract:
     The present invention belongs to preparation process of boron carbide powder. Boron oxide powder of size smalle than 50 mesh and purity higher than 98%, magnesium powder of size smaller than 100 mesh and purity higher than 99% and carbon powder of size smaller than 300 mesh and purity higher than 99% in the atom ratio of 2 to 6 to 1 are milled in a sealed high-energy ball milling pot for 2-4 hr at the conditions of ball-to-material ratio of 15, argon protection and 950-1550 rpm. The ball milled mixture material is loaded into iron crucible and made to react inside a muffle furance for 2-30 min in the conditions of argon protection and 510-1000 deg.c. The product is processed with hydrochloric acid in 2 mol/L concentration to eliminate MgO to reach purity of 95-99%.
