Abstract:
    The pager (1) whose use is to be controlled is associated with a chip (25) card (21). When a message is delivered, units are deducted in a memory (26) of the chip card prepaid units to ensure that the messaging service provided is proportional to the use. In an alternative embodiment, the chip card has an authentication circuit (PIN, 27) for verifying that if the card bearer is authorized to receive all or part of the messages contained in the pager.
