Abstract:
An item of jewellery, e.g. a ring, bracelet, bangle, watch, etc, has a plurality of magnets (1) in an annular arrangement (2). The magnetic poles of one polarity (e.g. S) are distributed over at least a major sector, and preferably 360 degrees, of the annular arrangement at its radially-outward circumference, while the magnetic poles of the opposite polarity (e.g. N) are presented at the radially-inward circumference of the annular arrangement. The magnets may be at least partially surrounded by, or cornpletely enclosed in, decorative metal such as gold, silver, platinum, or their alloys. A mutually attractive force is established between a pair of the jewellery items having complementary magnetic polarities when any parts of the outer peripheries of the two items are in sufficiently close proximity. In one application two wedding or engagement rings, having outwardly directed north and south poles respectively, are worn by a couple who experience the attraction when bringing their hands (wearing the rings) together.
