Abstract:
The invention relates to an inorganic scintillator material having formula AnLnpX(3p n) wherein Ln represents one or several rare earth(s), X represents one or halogen atom(s) selected from F,Cl, Br or I, and A represents one or several alkaline(s) such as K, Li, Na, Rb or Cs, n and p represent values such that n, which can be zero, is lower than or equal to 2p, and p is greater than or equal to 1, wherein the content thereof in uranium and thorium yarn is low enough for the activity arising from alpha radiation of said elements to be less than 0.7 Bq/cc. The material has a very low nuclear background and is particularly suitable for use as a scintillator for a detector in order to measure thickness or substance in nuclear medicine, physics, chemistry, exploration, and the detection of dangerous or illicit substances.
