Abstract:
    The invention relates to a device for fitting rivets, buttons or the like, consisting of a lower and upper part to a fabric or the like, with a lower tool acting as an abutment for the lower part and a ram executing the riveting stroke, the lower end of which forms an upper tool acting on the upper part and the upper end of which co-operates with a rotating cam disc controlling the vertical movement and jaws movable in the direction of movement of the ram which, in order to provide a finger protecting position remains at a distance from the lower tool after an initial downward movement, whereby during said first downward movement an electric switch is actuated which, on operating, stops the device if the distant position is not reached, and whereby after the distant position has been reached, the subsequent second lowering movement is triggered. The ram (24), which is stationary for a short time between a first and a second lowering movement, takes the jaws (18) along with it over their entire downward travel, whereby, in a free travel on one side in relation to the ram (24), the jaws (18) are coupled to the ram (24) against the force of a spring (26), which is tensioned along with a relative movement between the ram (24) and the jaws (18) and switch actuation either when the jaws (18) are fitted on the fabric (11) or when the finger protection function is triggered.
